If there is any single mistake that first-time tattoo clients make, it is that they rarely do their research. This is not meant as a put-down or insult, rather a caveat or suggestion.
When you first walk into a studio, after you look around and take notice of the cleanliness (or lack of), the nest thing that you should do is to look at the portfolio of the artists working there.
Take your time looking at the images, and try not to think of it as some sort of catalog. A portfolio is meant to show the prospective client the qualityand style of the artists's work, as well as to make suggestions for those who aren't sure of what they want.
Most reputable and decent artists are not willing to copy their own work, or that of others. I personally would rather design each and every tattoo for an individual client - fitting it to your personality and body - so that it is as unique as you are.
So, please do your homework. Check for cleanliness first, then look at the artist's portfolio, and please take your time, I see too many customers who flip through a portfolio with barely enough time to even notice what's on the pages. Even if the work is nice, if it doesn't seem to fit you, then move on. There are plenty of talented artists out there, there is sure to be one that has the style you are looking for.
I have many images of my work on this site in the Gallery section and I welcome you to take a look at them. If you can, stop into the shop and take a look at the paper copy of my portfolio.
